Attorney
Sports / Agent Law
I have been a member of the Sports lawyers Association for over 7 years. Sports Law involves a wide range of issues including but not limited to the following:
- NCAA Amateur Eligibility
- Professional Team Contracts
- Marketing and Endorsement Contracts
- Sports Injuries
- Dirty Urine tests for performance enhancing drugs, like steroids and Human Growth Hormone (HGH) as well as other illegal substances such as cocaine and marijuana.
The advantages of having an attorney/agent over a nonlawyer agent are numerous, and they include the following:
Lawyers are held to a higher standard of accountability through its membership with the State Bar.
Lawyers are bound to avoid conflicts of interests with their clients, and are bound to disclose any potential conflict.
Further, lawyers are in a better position to foresee other potential legal problems such as Immigration matters which are becoming more common with so many European players playing in the NHL and the NBA, and many Caribbean nation players in Major League Baseball.
Although I am not a Certified Agent, I do have many close colleagues who are agents and who are certified by the NFL, NHL, NBA and MLB. If you have questions about team contracts, or the “Collective Bargaining Agreements” of the major sports leagues please contact me, and myself or a colleague of mine will be glad to help you.
